The 2.7L EcoBoost V6 takes 7.0 quarts of 5W-30 full synthetic with a Motorcraft FL-2062A cartridge filter — a 60-minute service that the cartridge housing makes a touch finickier than the 2.3L's spin-on.
The 2.7L "Nano" V6 in the Outer Banks, Badlands, and Wildtrak Broncos is a strong engine — twin-turbo direct-injection V6 with port injection added, plenty of low-end torque, and proven across the F-150 program since 2015. Treat it like any other modern boosted gasoline V6: full synthetic, 5,000-mile intervals if you do any off-road work or live somewhere hot, and don't run cheap fluid. There is an active 2.7L EcoBoost engine knock lawsuit covering certain 2021–2022 builds — keeping documented oil-change records protects you if a warranty claim becomes necessary.
The factory fill is Motorcraft Full Synthetic 5W-30 to spec WSS-M2C961-A1. The filter is a cartridge, not a spin-on — it lives in a plastic-topped housing on the top of the engine, driver side, between the intake and the firewall. The cap takes a 24mm or 27mm cap wrench depending on production date. Replace the housing O-ring every other service (it ships in the FL-2062A box).
Park on level ground and warm the engine 5 minutes. Pop the hood, locate the filter housing, and remove the cap with the cap wrench — pull the old cartridge straight up. Wipe the housing clean. Down below, raise the front, set stands, pull the splash shield (8mm bolts and push pins), and remove the 13mm drain plug at the rear of the oil pan. Let it drain a full five minutes — the V6 pan holds more than the 2.3L and the last quart matters. Reinstall the drain plug with a new crush washer at 22 ft-lbs.
Drop the new cartridge into the housing, install a fresh O-ring on the cap, and torque the cap to 18 ft-lbs (it will click into a hard stop — don't crank it). Refill with 7.0 quarts of 5W-30 synthetic. Start the engine, watch the oil pressure light extinguish in under three seconds, run it 30 seconds, shut down, and check the dipstick after a one-minute settle. Reset the oil life monitor through SYNC.
