A Bilstein 6112 front coilover set paired with a quality rear add-a-leaf is the most capable budget lift option for the Tacoma — 1.5"–2" of lift, meaningfully better damping, and the foundation to go further if your build evolves.
The Tacoma's IFS front end responds well to a quality coilover even at the budget tier. The Bilstein 6112 is a height-adjustable strut that replaces the OEM spring-shock assembly in one unit. At full compression it delivers around 1.5"–2" of lift over stock without compromising ride quality the way a cheap spacer lift will. The rear add-a-leaf packs that pair well with this setup — OME Dakar or SCS — add progressive spring rate and lift the rear 1"–1.5" to keep the truck level.
What this tier does not give you is additional wheel travel or corrected CV joint angles. At 2" of lift the front CV shafts are operating near their design limits. If you're planning anything above 2" — or running aggressive terrain where the suspension cycles fully — upper control arms become necessary to restore caster geometry and reduce stress on the ball joints. Skipping UCAs and stacking more lift on top of the 6112s is a path to premature ball joint and CV wear. At the ≤$600 price point, the right call is to stay at 1.5"–2" and plan UCAs as the next upgrade.
The 6112 is height-adjustable via a threaded collar, which lets you dial in the front height precisely. Set the rear first by measuring loaded ride height, then match the front to achieve a slight nose-up rake (1/4"–1/2" front lower than rear when loaded) for a planted trail feel. Torque all suspension fasteners with the vehicle at ride height — not in the air — to avoid binding the rubber bushings at full droop.
