ARB makes an air locker for the D35 (RD120 for 3.55 carrier break, RD121 for 3.73+). Premium locker for a weak axle — usually skip and swap the axle instead.
ARB makes an Air Locker for the Dana 35: RD120 for low carrier (3.07-3.54) and RD121 for high carrier (3.73-up). Same operation as other ARBs — selectable, air-engaged, open differential when disengaged.
The question is whether it makes sense to put a $800 selectable locker in a $400 weak axle. NAXJA forum consensus says "usually no." If you have $1500 to invest in your XJ's rear differential, that money goes much further toward an 8.8 Explorer swap with built-in disc brakes and 31-spline shafts.
Valid cases for D35 ARB:
For anyone else: skip the D35 ARB and put your money into an 8.8 swap with an ARB or Detroit locker.
Install: same as other ARBs. Requires diff teardown, carrier replacement, drilling for the air line port, and complete setup with new bearings.
