Entry-level trail XJ: 3" lift, 31" AT tires, basic skids, recovery essentials. The classic affordable build.

The classic "first XJ build" — capable on fire roads and manageable trails, still completely daily-drivable, on a sane budget. The spec:

**Suspension**: 3" lift (Rough Country, Rusty's, or OME budget kit), Bilstein 5100 shocks, sway bar disconnects up front.

**Tires/wheels**: 31x10.50R15 BFG KO2 or Falken Wildpeak, factory steelies or cheap Cragar Soft 8s.

**Gearing**: stock 3.55 acceptable; regear to 4.10 if you find a deal.

**Armor**: gas tank skid (must-do), transmission skid, basic rocker protection.

**Recovery**: kinetic rope, soft shackles, Viair 400P portable compressor, fire extinguisher, recovery shackle mounts.

**Electrical**: nothing required — maybe add LED reverse lights and a single aux light bar.

**Optional**: front bumper with shackle tabs ($300-500 budget) for a future winch.

Total investment: $2,000-$4,000 in parts (DIY). This is the build most XJ owners stop at — and it's plenty for 90% of the trails out there.
