Adjustable Lower Control Arms

Adjustable lower control arms let you re-center the axle and correct caster after a lift; HD construction also resists bending under trail impact.

Stock XJ lower control arms are stamped steel with rubber bushings, ~16" long, fixed length. After a lift, the axle shifts forward (because the LCA arc swings the axle forward as the axle drops). Adjustable LCAs let you lengthen each arm to push the axle back to its stock position, which restores wheelbase and proper wheel-in-wellhouse position. Adjustable LCAs also use heavier 1.5"-1.75" DOM tubing — much harder to bend on rocks than stock stamped arms.

Brand options: IRO HD adjustable LCAs ($280/pair), RockKrawler X Factor ($320/pair), Clayton Off Road ($340/pair), Synergy ($300/pair). All use either Johnny Joints (high-misalignment, rebuildable, noisy) or polyurethane (cheaper, wear faster, quieter).

For a 3" lift, adjustable LCAs are nice-to-have. For 4.5"+ they are essentially required because the axle shift is large enough to put the front tires noticeably out of the wheel arch. Pair with adjustable UCAs for full geometry correction.

Install is straightforward — bolt-in, no welding. Length is set to put the axle ~ stock position (measure from front bumper to leading edge of tire). Caster will improve as the LCA pushes the axle rearward.
