The JT Gladiator uses the same front brake assembly as the JL Wrangler on most trims — which means the aftermarket selection is broad and pad wear patterns from Wrangler owners translate directly.
The Gladiator's brakes work harder than a standard passenger truck's because the JT is heavier than it looks — the Rubicon trim with full armor can push 5,100 lbs — and towing pushes the braking system further. Pads that are marginal on a lighter truck can fade on a Gladiator with a loaded trailer on a mountain descent. Budget accordingly.
Front pads wear faster than rears. On a Rubicon used for moderate off-road and daily driving, expect front pad replacement around 35,000–45,000 miles. Towing and trail use shortens that. Check pad thickness whenever you rotate tires.
**Safety note:** Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Use rated jack stands at all four corners before getting under the JT for any brake work.
Factory-spec OEM pads (ACDelco or Mopar OE): ~$40–60 per axle. Adequate for stock-weight street use and light off-road.
Power Stop Z23 kit (pads and rotors, one axle): ~$150–200. The most common upgrade choice for JT owners — drilled and slotted rotors handle heat better under load.
Hawk HPS pads alone: ~$80–90 per axle. Higher friction coefficient than stock, better fade resistance for towing. Works with factory or aftermarket rotors.
StopTech Sport Slotted: ~$120–140 per rotor. Slot pattern sheds gas and debris off the pad face — meaningful on a trail rig where dust gets into the rotor/pad interface.
All brake work is DIY-friendly at this level. A shop charges $150–250 in labor for a front axle pad and rotor replacement on a JT — the parts markup is usually where they make money. Do it yourself and save the labor.
