A 12V compressor fridge is the single highest-ROI overland upgrade. Set the temp, forget about it, no ice management. For a Power Wagon-sized rig with a 6.4' bed, a 45L fridge is the sweet spot — enough for a week of food for two, not so big it eats half the cargo bay. Mount on a fridge slide so you can pull it out without climbing into the bed.
A 12V compressor fridge (not thermoelectric — those are junk for camping) is the universal Power Wagon overland upgrade. Three tiers:
**ICECO VL45 ProS** ($580) — value pick. 45L capacity, Secop compressor (the same Danish compressor used in premium units), digital temperature display, USB charging port. Slightly noisier than Dometic/ARB but works fine for occasional use. Best $/L on the market.
**Dometic CFX3 45** ($1,100) — the reference. Same compressor class as ICECO but with better insulation (lower amp draw — typically 0.5-1.0 A/hr in 90°F ambient), WiFi monitoring, dual-zone capability (fridge + freezer in one unit). The most popular overland fridge in North America. 5-year warranty.
**ARB Zero 47** ($1,500) — premium. Best insulation in class (lowest amp draw of any 45L unit on the market), titanium-reinforced corners (drop-rated), removable basket. The pick if you camp 50+ days/year or live in hot climates.
**Power Wagon-specific wiring:** the bed has a factory 12V outlet at the rear right corner (rated 20A) — fine for any of these fridges. For serious off-grid use, wire direct from the battery through a 15A inline fuse and Anderson Powerpole. That bypasses the ignition-off cut-off (some PWs cut bed-outlet power 30 min after key-off) and gives you a clean 24/7 connection.
**Dual battery consideration:** a single factory battery and an ignition-off fridge will discharge to low-voltage cutoff in 8-14 hours depending on temperature. For multi-day camping with the engine off, plan on a dual-battery setup (Genesis Offroad or REDARC isolator + auxiliary battery). The Power Wagon has factory provisions for a second battery — there's a mounting tray and dedicated stud already there.
**Fridge slide:** if you mount the fridge in the bed (most common location), a fridge slide ($380) extends it out the tailgate for access without climbing in. The Power Wagon's tall bed makes this almost mandatory — without a slide, you're reaching down 36" to grab beer.
