Protects the oil pan and front of the engine from rock contact. Critical for any rocky trail use; a punctured oil pan ends your day fast.
The 4.0L oil pan hangs as the lowest point at the front of the engine and is vulnerable to rock contact. An engine skid plate (sometimes called an oil pan skid) is a 3/16" or 1/4" steel plate that mounts under the front crossmember and covers the oil pan area.
Good options:
Install: bolt-on for most kits. Some require minor drilling. 1-2 hours.
Skip if: you're a dedicated overland tourer who never hits rocks; you've already lifted enough that the oil pan is well clear of the ground. Otherwise this is one of the highest-priority armor pieces for the XJ.
