The front track bar locates the axle side to side under the Jeep — a worn one lets the axle wander, which shows up as loose steering and is a leading cause of death wobble.

The front track bar is the diagonal link that ties the axle to the unibody and keeps the axle centered as the suspension cycles. The coil springs hold the XJ up, but they do nothing to stop the axle from sliding left or right — that job belongs entirely to the track bar. When its bushings crack or the frame-end mount wears, the axle shifts under cornering and braking, your steering feels vague, and on a lifted XJ the slop becomes a death-wobble trigger. Replacing the bar restores a centered axle and tight steering. If your Jeep is lifted, this is also the moment to fix the geometry the lift threw off by switching to an adjustable bar that re-centers the axle.
