Factory 351 Windsor — Specs and Swap Value

Difficulty 2/50 hrs$01976-1977

The 351W is the factory big-block option — only available 1976–1977. These trucks command a premium and the engine is worth keeping. Adding an Edelbrock 4-bbl and a proper tune wakes it up substantially.

Ford offered the 351 Windsor (5.8L) in the Bronco for the final two model years. Output was rated at 154 hp net (post-smog era) — low by modern standards, but the 351W makes significantly more torque than the 302: ~280 lb-ft vs ~220 lb-ft.

The 351W uses the same block deck height as the 302, making it a direct swap in both directions. It accepts all 302 accessories and most 302 aftermarket parts. The primary difference is stroke (3.50 vs 2.87 in).

**Upgrading the 351W:**

**351W vs 302 for swaps:** If you're putting a Ford V8 into a non-351 Bronco, the 302 is cheaper and sufficient. The 351W swap is only compelling if you're building a serious trail rig or already have the engine.
