Stake pocket depth and spacing vary by year, and not all universal racks fit the JT without adapter brackets.
Most JT bed rack systems clamp to the bed rail via stake pocket inserts — no drilling required. A small number of rack systems require drilling into the bed floor or using factory cargo track anchors. Know which type you're buying before you commit.
**Rack categories and what they're for**
**Universal crossbar racks** (Yakima OverHaul HD, Thule TracRac): Two crossbars spanning the bed width, adjustable fore/aft position. Load rating typically 300–500 lbs. Mount roof boxes, kayaks, lumber, or a roof top tent (RTT) on a crossbar system. The JT's 5-foot bed needs careful RTT positioning — the tent must deploy rearward or to the side without conflicting with the cab.
**Full bed platform systems** (Leitner ACS, Sherpa Colorado): A full-coverage aluminum extrusion system that spans the entire bed floor and rails. **Roof top tent compatibility on the JT bed**
The JT's cab height and bed rail position create a rear deck height of approximately 30–32" loaded (wheel arch height). An RTT mounted on a bed rack sits 6–12" above the bed rail when folded. This stacks to 38–44" — manageable for a garage with an 8' door, tight for lower clearances.
For RTT mounting: confirm the rack's dynamic load rating (what it can carry while driving, not parked). Most RTTs weigh 100–180 lbs. Most bed racks rate dynamic loads at 150–300 lbs. Match accordingly, and check that the RTT width (most are 56"–65") fits within the JT bed width without overhanging the wheel wells excessively.
**Stake pocket systems (no-drill):**
1. Identify the stake pocket positions along the JT bed rail (typically 6 pockets, 3 per side).
