True rock rails for the Power Wagon are harder to find than on Wrangler-based builds — but this truck sits high enough from the factory that rocker contact is genuinely less frequent, and a quality step with tube protection handles most of what the trail throws at the sides.
The Power Wagon's ground clearance starts at 14.3" from the factory — higher than most lifted Wranglers. That height, combined with the truck's wider track, puts the rocker panels further from rock contact than on lower-slung rigs. It doesn't mean the rockers are immune: side slopes and tight canyon trails still put rock against the body, especially with the truck loaded and suspension compressed. But the risk profile is different from a Wrangler, and the market reflects it: most side protection options for the Power Wagon are step tubes with some degree of side protection built in, rather than full-coverage rock sliders.
Morryde's Rock Rail Steps ($549) are the closest to a true rock rail in the Power Wagon market. They use heavy-wall tubing, mount solidly to the frame, and provide a functional step without the flimsy flex common in lighter nerf bars. If you're putting this truck in situations where side impacts are likely — off-camber trails, rock gardens — these are the right choice. N-Fab's nerf steps ($499) are a step-down in rock contact capability but offer a clean look and solid factory-style mounting. Westin's HDX Drop Steps ($349) are an honest, no-frills side step that handle light trail use and daily entry/exit without any rock rail pretension.
The AMP Research BedStep2 ($329) solves a different problem — tailgate access to the bed — rather than rocker protection, but it's worth mentioning because it's the most common supplemental step on Power Wagon overland builds where the primary side steps are already covered.
