Stock reverse lights are dim. Add an aux LED flood (Rigid SR-Series 6" or KC Cyclone pair) on the rear bumper, wired to the reverse circuit through a relay.

Factory XJ reverse bulbs (1156) put out maybe 400 lumens. Backing into a campsite at night or onto a trailer ramp is awful. The fix: add a bumper-mounted LED flood that triggers off the reverse circuit.

Wiring: pull the reverse light wire (the lighter green / green-white at the rear tail circuit) and use it to trigger a relay. The relay feeds your aux LED from a fused +12V battery feed. Why a relay? The stock reverse circuit is on the BCM/PCM in 97+ models — drawing 10+A directly off it will damage the module. The relay isolates it.

Light choice:

Mount on the rear bumper, hitch, or under the cargo door using existing hardware. Many aftermarket rear bumpers (JCR, C4) have integrated reverse light cutouts.
