Quick-disconnect end links let you decouple the front sway bar for off-road articulation, then reconnect for street stability. JKS Quicker Discos are the standard.
The stock front sway bar limits articulation — when one front wheel tries to droop and the other stuff, the sway bar resists, keeping the axle level. This is desirable on the road (keeps the body flat in corners) but horrible off-road (you want the axle to articulate fully). Disconnects let you pull a pin and free the sway bar on trail, then reconnect for the highway.
JKS Quicker Discos (PN 2030) are the de facto standard at ~$120/pair. They use a quick-release pin and are designed for stock height through 4.5" of lift (different lengths for different lift heights). RockKrawler, Currie, and IRO also sell disconnects.
On a stock-height XJ, disconnects don't help much because there's not enough wheel travel for the sway bar to matter. On a 3"+ lifted XJ they make a substantial difference in articulation — you can drop or stuff a wheel 2-3" further with the sway bar disconnected. Always reconnect for highway driving; an unfastened sway bar end will rattle violently and may damage suspension components.
A "sway bar delete" is the more permanent option — remove the bar entirely. This is fine for trail-only rigs but means the rig will sway more on highway turns.
