The 2.5"–3.5" range is where the Gladiator JT's suspension setup pays off — enough lift for 35s on any trim, enough height to address departure angle on the truck bed, and the geometry correction that separates a good lift from a frustrating one.

At this price tier you're buying replacement coils up front, not spacers, plus control arm corrections and track bar adjustments that keep the front axle centered and the handling predictable on-road. The Teraflex 2.5" Performance kit ($699) leads the value conversation — it's replacement coils with alignment cam bolts and an adjustable front track bar, which addresses most of the geometry shortcomings of a 2.5" lift without going to full adjustable control arms. The JKS 2.5" kit ($899) adds better shocks and a slightly more complete geometry package. EVO Mfg's Enforcer at $1,299 is the proper build: front and rear addressed together, quality control arms, and EVO's reputation for JL/JT fitment accuracy.

The Mopar 2" kit ($995) deserves a mention specifically for owners who want to preserve their factory powertrain warranty. It's dealer-installed, FIAT/Chrysler-approved, and Mopar will stand behind it if anything goes sideways with warranty claims. It won't give you the wheel travel or geometry correction of the aftermarket kits, but the warranty peace-of-mind is real for newer trucks still under coverage.

The JT's rear leaf spring suspension is the ongoing compatibility headache with this platform. Every JL-based lift kit you find on the shelf was designed around the JL's rear coil springs. Some manufacturers sell JT-specific versions of their JL kits; others retrofit the front components and include JT-specific rear leaf spring packs or AAL kits separately. Before you order anything, confirm the listing says JT — not JL — and verify it includes a rear component. Running a leveled front with stock rear leaves on a truck that hauls gear will look wrong and handle worse than stock.

The JT's rear leaf pack is the detail that trips up most first-time lift buyers, so it's worth understanding the three approaches before you order. Add-a-leaf (AAL): a supplemental leaf inserted into the factory pack. It's the cheapest way to gain 1"-1.5" of rear height and stiffen the pack for load, but it also stiffens the ride and can accelerate axle wrap under throttle. Replacement leaf packs: full aftermarket springs (EVO, Deaver, Alcan) that give the correct lift height with a spring rate tuned for it — the right call for a truck that hauls gear or tows, and the smoothest-riding option. Spacer/block on the rear: a block between the axle and the factory pack. It gains height cheaply but increases the leverage that causes axle wrap, and is the least desirable structurally on a leaf-sprung rear.

Whichever you choose, a JT that carries weight in the bed or tows benefits from addressing axle wrap at the same time — the stock geometry lets the axle rotate under load, and lift makes it worse.

Torque the leaf spring U-bolts and control arm bolts with the suspension at ride height, not hanging. Bushings set at full droop bind and wear prematurely once the truck settles. Lower the JT onto its wheels, roll it a few feet to settle the suspension, then do the final torque pass.

Don't skip the alignment, and specifically ask the shop to set caster — a 2.5"-3.5" lift pulls caster out of spec, and low caster on a solid-axle truck feels vague and wandering at highway speed. If the shop can't bring caster back with the cam bolts in your kit, you need adjustable front control arms. Stepping down to a budget spacer lift avoids the geometry question only because it stays under 2".

The Gladiator's 137.3" wheelbase is nearly 19" longer than a four-door JL's, and the long rear driveshaft is the quiet benefit: the same 2.5" of lift produces a shallower change in driveshaft operating angle, which is why JTs at this height rarely develop the driveline vibration that plagues short-wheelbase Jeeps. That forgiveness has a limit. At 3.5", especially with a rear block or AAL rather than a replacement pack, check rear pinion angle after the install. The symptom of an angle problem is a drone or vibration at 65–75 mph under light throttle that changes when you lift off the accelerator. The fix on a leaf-sprung rear is a tapered degree shim between the axle perch and the spring pack — a $30 part — or leaf packs with the correction built in, which is one more argument for replacement packs over stacked hardware.

Mid-tier kits differ less in their coils than in what else is in the box, and the omissions surface at full droop or full compression. Before ordering, confirm the kit includes (or budget separately for): bump stop extensions — at 2.5"+ on 35s, the factory bump stops allow the tire into the fender liner at full compression; front brake line and ABS wire slack — cycle the axle to full droop on the jack and verify nothing pulls taut, since extended lines are cheap insurance at 3"+; sway bar end links — longer links restore the bar to its designed operating angle, and a kit without them leaves the bar preloaded at ride height; and shock length — a 2.5" lift on factory-length shocks limits droop to less than stock travel, which wastes the lift off-road. Steps

  1. Break lug nuts loose on all four corners before lifting.
  2. Raise the vehicle and support on jack stands at all four frame rails.
  3. Remove all four wheels.
  4. Front: disconnect sway bar end links, unbolt shock absorbers top and bottom, remove the front trackbar from the axle bracket.
  5. Lower the front axle on the floor jack to decompress front coil springs. Remove and replace front coil springs per kit instructions.
  6. Install adjustable front track bar and alignment cam bolts per kit instructions.
  7. Reinstall front shocks (new shocks if included), reconnect sway bar end links, reinstall wheels.
  8. Rear: support rear axle, unbolt rear shocks, loosen U-bolts on rear leaf springs.
  9. Install rear leaf spring packs or AAL per kit instructions, reinstall U-bolts and torque to spec.
  10. Reinstall rear shocks and wheels.
  11. Torque all fasteners to spec — track bar bolts, control arm bolts, and U-bolts all have specific torque values; use the kit's torque sheet.
  12. Schedule a 4-wheel alignment immediately after install.
