A-Pillar Gauge Pod

Difficulty 2/51–4 hrs$30–1501984-1990, 1991-1995, 1996, 1997-2001

Single, dual, or triple gauge pod that mounts to the A-pillar for mounting aux gauges. XJ A-pillar is thin so most pods sit proud of the pillar.

Few aftermarket pods are made specifically for the XJ since the A-pillar is narrow. Options:

(1) Daystar KJ71001 dual-pillar pod: fits 1997-2001, holds two 2-1/16" gauges. Bolts to existing A-pillar trim screws. ~$50.

(2) Daystar single pod for 84-96: holds one 2-1/16" gauge. ~$30.

(3) Custom fabricated triple pod: many small builders sell XJ-specific 3-gauge pods. Auto Meter dash panel kits available for some XJs from specialty shops like 4LowParts.

(4) Center stack mount: many builders skip A-pillar and put gauges where the radio bezel has open space, or in a dual-DIN bezel's accessory slot.

(5) Overhead console: some aftermarket consoles (Rugged Ridge, BSI) have gauge cutouts.

Trim/install: route gauge wiring under the headliner, down the A-pillar (behind the trim), and through the firewall via existing grommets. Use a flat extension cable for the trans temp sender to keep things clean.

NOTE: A-pillar pods on XJ can interfere with sun visor swing. Test before drilling. Avoid pods that block the door-mounted speaker on driver's side (Country/Limited).
