Head bolts: 22-45-45-110 ft-lb (bolt 11 to 100). Main caps 80 ft-lb. Rod caps 33 ft-lb. Valve cover 7 ft-lb. Damper 80 ft-lb.
Critical 4.0L torque values to memorize. Head bolts use a four-stage torque-to-yield sequence in FSM order (1-14): Step 1 - all to 22 ft-lb (30 Nm); Step 2 - all to 45 ft-lb (61 Nm); Step 3 - re-verify all at 45 ft-lb; Step 4 - bolts 1-10 and 12-14 to 110 ft-lb (149 Nm), bolt 11 to ONLY 100 ft-lb (135 Nm) because it threads into the water jacket and use Loctite 592 sealant on its threads. Main bearing cap bolts: 80 ft-lb (108 Nm). Connecting rod cap nuts: 33 ft-lb (45 Nm). Crankshaft damper (harmonic balancer) center bolt: 80 ft-lb (108 Nm). Flywheel/flex plate: 105 ft-lb (143 Nm). Oil pan bolts: 96 in-lb (8 ft-lb, 11 Nm). Valve cover bolts: 85 in-lb (7 ft-lb, 10 Nm). Intake/exhaust manifold to head: 23 ft-lb (31 Nm). Spark plugs: 27 ft-lb (37 Nm). Always use a calibrated wrench for the head sequence.
