1997+ XJ suspension torque values (most owners reference these even on earlier years). Lower control arm bolts: 85 ft-lb (115 Nm) at axle end, 85 ft-lb at frame bracket end. Upper control arm bolts: 55 ft-lb (75 Nm) axle end, 66 ft-lb (90 Nm) frame end. Front track bar: 74 ft-lb (100 Nm) at frame end, 55 ft-lb (75 Nm) at axle end. Front sway bar end links: 17 ft-lb (23 Nm). Front sway bar to frame: 35 ft-lb (47 Nm). Rear shock lower bolt: 17 ft-lb (23 Nm). Rear shock upper bolt: 23 ft-lb (31 Nm). Leaf spring U-bolts: 55 ft-lb plus 1/4 turn (do not overtorque - cracks the perch). Leaf spring shackle bolts: 55 ft-lb. Rear sway bar end links: 26 ft-lb (35 Nm). Critical: torque all bushing-pivot bolts at ride height (with wheels on the ground) to set the rubber neutral - tightening at full droop preloads the bushing and shortens its life dramatically.
