Buy true beadlocks only if you actually air down hard for rock. On a truck this heavy the payoff is real — clamped beads let you run pressures a sealed wheel cannot hold — but you are also signing up for a recurring ring-bolt re-torque, a wheel load rating that must clear the Power Wagon's front axle weight, and a wheel that no state has DOT-approved. If you run dirt roads, washboard, and moderate trail, the standard wheel in the companion guide is the better truck.
Airing down lengthens the contact patch and lets the tire drape over rock. It is the single largest free traction gain available, and it matters more on a Power Wagon than on a Jeep because there is more mass to plant. The problem is that the same mass loads the sidewall hard, and at the pressures that help most on rock — call it under 12 psi — the bead can walk off the drop center of a standard wheel under lateral load. When that happens you are changing a tire on a side hill, or riding a flat out.
A true beadlock solves this mechanically: an outer ring bolts through the tire's outer bead and clamps it to the wheel flange. The bead cannot move because it is pinched, not held by air pressure.
True beadlock. External clamping ring, typically 16-32 bolts per wheel. This is the real article. It is not DOT-approved, and no manufacturer claims it is; enforcement varies by state and is usually a non-issue in practice, but "not DOT-approved" is the honest status and it can matter for insurance after an at-fault crash. Check your state before you buy.
Beadlock-capable (simulated). Looks like a beadlock, has a decorative outer ring on a sealed wheel, and is machined to accept a real clamping ring later. It does not clamp the bead as sold. This is the right answer for most Power Wagon owners: the look, DOT compliance, no re-torque schedule, and a genuine upgrade path if your driving changes.
Double beadlock. Clamps inner and outer beads. Hutchinson's Rock Monster is the military-derived version. Real capability, real money, real weight.
This is the step that separates a safe beadlock purchase from a dangerous one. Half-ton and Jeep-market beadlocks are common, cheap, and rated nowhere near a 3/4-ton's axle loads.
The math is short. The 2014+ Power Wagon carries a front GAWR of 6,000 lb, so each front wheel must be rated for at least 3,000 lb. Rear GAWR is higher, but the front is the binding constraint because of the engine and winch. Verify the truck's own numbers on the door-jamb sticker rather than trusting a spec page.
Then check three things on any wheel you are considering:
Beadlocks are also heavy. A stock 17 in Power Wagon alloy runs in the low 30 lb range; a steel-ring true beadlock in the same size is commonly 40-55 lb. Four wheels at +15 lb each is 60 lb of unsprung, rotating mass on top of whatever the tire already added — one more reason the shock and gearing conversations in the linked guides stop being optional.

Budget a full set at $1,400-3,000 for capable wheels or a single-ring true beadlock, and $2,600-4,500 for double beadlocks, including ring bolts and thread locker. Add $350 for air if you do not already carry it — a beadlock with no compressor is an expensive wheel you will never use at low pressure.
One practical cost people forget: many tire shops will not mount a true beadlock, because the ring install is outside their liability and their machines are set up for sealed wheels. Expect to mount them yourself or find a specific off-road shop. Budget an afternoon and a torque wrench you trust.
Treat the re-torque as non-negotiable. This is the maintenance cost of the capability, and it is the reason a beadlock-capable wheel is the right answer for anyone who will not do it.
Backspacing and offset decide whether a big tire clears the steering knuckle, the track bar, and the factory flares. Match them to your tire size using the Power Wagon tire fitment guide rather than guessing, and cross-check the tire against the mud-terrain tire guide. Pressures, for a truck around 6,900 lb: roughly 28-35 psi on pavement per the door-jamb placard for your tire size, 15-20 psi for washboard and dirt roads, 10-14 psi for technical dirt and sand, and single digits on rock once the beads are clamped. Reinflate before pavement, every time — low pressure at highway speed builds sidewall heat and is how a tire comes apart.
True beadlocks earn their money on rock, on a heavy truck, for an owner who will re-torque the rings. Confirm a per-wheel rating of at least 3,000 lb against the front GAWR, accept the weight and the legality caveat, and carry air. For everyone else — and that is most Power Wagons — a beadlock-capable wheel gives the look and the upgrade path without the schedule.
