Budget Lift Kit — Coil Spacers and Entry Springs (≤$600)

Difficulty 2/53–5 hrs$129–5991997-2006

A budget lift gets you off the ground without raiding the build fund — but know exactly what you're not getting before you buy.

The TJ's coil-spring front suspension makes spacer lifts genuinely straightforward to install compared to leaf-sprung rigs. A 2" coil spacer drops on top of the existing spring perch in roughly a Saturday afternoon and costs less than a decent set of floor mats. For drivers who want mild clearance gains, a more aggressive stance, or room for 31" or 32" tires, a budget lift is a legitimate starting point — not a compromise you'll regret for long.

What the budget tier doesn't include matters as much as what it does. Most kits under $300 ship with no geometry correction hardware. The TJ's front track bar runs at the stock angle for a stock ride height; raise the body 2" without relocating the drag link and track bar and you've introduced bump steer and steering wander. It won't be catastrophic at 2", but it's real and noticeable at highway speed. Skyjacker's 3.5" kit at the top of this range does include a track bar drop bracket — it's worth the extra cost if you're planning to stay at this level for more than one season.

The Rough Country 2" kit ($189) is a reliable, widely-used entry point that gets 31" tires under the stock flares without rubbing at full flex. Expect softer-than-stock ride quality from the replacement coil springs; Rough Country specs for value, not articulation or on-road compliance. Daystar's polyurethane spacers ($129) are the true floor-entry option — they sit on top of your existing springs and do nothing for shock travel. If your stock shocks are in good shape and you're not planning trails with significant flex, spacers are perfectly adequate. If your shocks are tired, replace them at the same time or you'll be back under the rig in six months.
